I Shall Wear Purple

When I grow old I shall wear purple
With slacks and souvenir sweat shirts
And socks and sneakers.
I'll run a comb through my hair
And dab lipstick on my lips.

I shall spend my pension on fabric and threads
And buy stitching books with only colored pictures.
I'll go to workshops and learn new stitches
But never use them again unless I want to.
And set my cup of coffee by my stitching
And forget to wear my nametag
And only go to Stitch-Ins that provide lunch.

I'll sit in my rocker with my magnifying lamp
And watch my "soaps" and stitch
And make up for time spent cooking and cleaning
And only finish my favorite projects.
And I'll use glue and make knots.

But now I must wear colors that will enhance
And perm my hair and perfect my make-up.
I must set a good example for my children
And their children.
I must go to Board meetings and give my reports
And worry about conservation of my needlework.
And not use glue nor make knots.

I'm beginning to practice a little now!
So people who know me are not too surprised
When suddenly I am old and start to wear purple
